Default Need help finding the right exhaust!

Alright guys, I just recently bought a 2003 Silverado Z71, 5.3 engine. Looking to put dual exhaust on it but not sure what to get. I know there are probably a million threads on this and I searched, but after not seeing anything helpful on the first couple pages, I decided to ask.

I want something mild and not too expensive. I want it to have a good rumble at idle and of course sound good when I step on it but I don't want it too be obnoxiously loud. I had a magnaflow exhaust on a dodge ram that I really liked but I cant remember which one it was. A lot my buddies say flowmaster 40 or 44 series but im kind of partial to Magnaflow. Also, do you guys prefer straight pipes or the ones that stick out behind your back tires? Any kind of performance difference there?

What do you guys suggest? Thank you very much for your time and suggestions.

Here is the exhaust I had on my 5.7 dodge ram. Would this work fine on my Chevy as well?

Hey Victor,

I had an 04 silverado 1500 5.3L and had a 40 series Flowmaster on it and liked it but decided to all in and put a 10 series muffler on it. Another questions you should ask yourself is do you want "dual exhaust" or true duals. My sister had a magnaflow muffler on her 04 tahoe 4.7L but I wasn't impressed with it. I've always liked Flowmaster mufflers better compared to Magnaflow but its just my opinion. Check out youtube videos too.

Dual exhaust or true dual? You can run a single in and dual out muffler for the look of duals, or have it actually split into 2 pipes. True duals will give you a power loss and lower rpm's and a cackle at higher rpm's, but also a gain in power at higher rpm's. Single in dual out will give you a power increase at lower rpm's and a rumble. As for sound, magnaflow IMO over flowmasters. Never like chambered muffleres anyways. I have a 18" on my 01 and a 14" on my 08 silverados and love em. I prefer the 18" on my 01 as it seems to have a deeper rumble. The longer the case, the quieter it is at idle. Magnaflow isn't known for it's loudness, rather it's deeper sound. Any other mufflers you checked out? Borla, spintech, aeroturbine, corsa if you want to spend the money. Here, YouTube is your friend!
