I'm working on a friends (female) 89 1500 with a 4" body lift. The truck runs great until it is stopped and idles for a long time (20 min) then it overheats. It'll run fine all day until it gets stuck in rush hour traffic, then gauge goes all the way, check gauge light comes on and you can see water boiling into over flow can. Changed all the logical things but finally realized that with the body lift, whomever did this modification had to cut most of the lower shroud off so it would clear the fan. So what is normally done about a fan shroud when you move the body up 4 " and cut the shroud off?
Since I did all the work from the front of the engine I never noticed the big hole in the lower shroud.

 

Convert it to electric fans?

 

Electric fan conversion is going to be your best bet if she wants to keep the body lift. With the fan sitting that much lower its not getting the air flow it needs when sitting. The shroud is not really the problem.
