Default poor acceleration & missing

hey i have a 1990 5.0 c1500 with 170,000 miles on it. about a year ago i put in a new distributor because the old one went out. since then, the truck has driven very poorly. when i give it gas no matter how much it gets really sluggish. if im rolling down the street at idle and give it a little gas it even feels like it gets less, then it will kick back in and start going. the worst is when i get on the freeway, when im trying to get up to 65 it is a struggle and it will even completely cut out and i hear a loud knock noise and i have to let off the gas. ive changes the cap, rotor, wires, spark plugs, fuel filter, fuel pump, thermometer, icu, egr, just about every little piece on this truck to try and get it running smooth but nothing works. and when ive been driving for a while the engine starts making this ticking sound which gets louder and faster with the more gas i give it. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you hear it go faster its going to be belt driven like AC or alt water pump take belt off feel for something binding or can be cam shaft or position I have a theoscope to find noises
You can use pipe or metal put on Eng and then in your ear look for taping good luck

Check the timing. It's easy to get the distributor off by 1 tooth. You are describing the symptoms.

good news. the knocking noise i was getting was from the old water pump. i put in a new one and got rid of the old fan clutch, replaced it with a flex-a-light fan and 2 1/2" spacer. also put on a new alternator, lower radiator hose and serp belt. still need to tweak with the timing, thinking about going full msd ignition
