Exclamation "Service 4WD" Message...

I have a '99 single cab silverado. Just now randomly my service 4wd message is popping up. Over on the transfer case control module (where the 4wd auto, 2hi, 4hi, 4low buttons are located) will randomly be not lit up and sometimes it will be. When it is lit up I try to switch to 4wd and it does not work at all. Someone please help me because I need to use my 4wd when hunting is around.

Those switches go bad from time to time and will cause the service 4x4 message

Before buying anything check the main ground on the frame rail under drivers door. Then check all the electrical connections, transfer case shift motor on transfer case, locking selenoid on front differential and module behind dash panel on left side. If all is good then you could start with the switch on dash then motor and last the module. I replaced all and found my problem to be with the module behind dash. Found a used one on E-bay for $50 as new is way to much. Check E-bay for you best prices on the part you want to change.

My 2001 chev 2500hd 4x4 some times when I stop it will switch into neutral and I cant move I have yo go to 4hi then back to 2 hi to move. The 4wd light will come on at times I put a new switch in and cleaned the ground under the truck seemed to work great till I had to stop hard and again it went into neutral. When I switch it from 2hi to 4 hi and low it works fine. The light came back on yesterday but it did stay in 2hi.
