Does the sound seem to correlate with your speed? Like if you're accelerating, does it begin tinking progressively faster?

what happens when you throttle it up by hand under the hood, or does it change more with engine speed or road speed

maybe an exhaust leak? Does it get faster with increasing engine speed or faster with increasing vehicle speed? How is the engine oil level? May just be noisy lifters.

Is it based on speed, rpm or just when you step on it? If it is under hard acceleration, my guess is pre-detonation, try higher octane fuel.
