Default truck problems HELP!!!!!!!!

i am having problems with my truck. first- i take off hard i hear this loud knocking noise it sounds like it comming from the back. but if i take it easy off the line its ok, and its only if i launch hard. and i think i should be getting better milage than what i am. im getting around 17 on a good day, any help with that. it a 4.3 L.

Don't post in the forum Notice section, i'm sure a mod will move it. But I'm thinking U-joints. Do you have a single cab short bed, or something bigger? How many miles?

its a regular cab. with 168000, u joints are all tite

the gears in the rearend may be gettin' loose, but I doubt it. You might just need a full tune-up for the gas mileage. But 17 isn't horrible for a v6 pushing a fullsize truck. My stepdads ol' 95 4.3 5-speed got 20, but he drives like an ol man, never gets over 55. In comparison, his 08 Dodge 1500 v-6 auto only gets 17.
