The check engine light has been on for a long time. Went to start truck today and at first it would start and run rough. thhen it would start at all. 2001 silverado 1500 5.3. Any ideas?

 

you need to pull the codes to find out what is going on. this can only be done with a code scanner/reader. autozone can do it for free, maybe other parts stores. with all the computerized stuff on modern vehicles, no one can really begin to diagnose without knowing the codes.

 

Don't ever ignore a check engine light, atleast have it scanned for free and see what the prolbem is. Ignoring what may have been a small issue has possibly caused a much more expensive problem.
