07 tahoes and yukons
Hello all i am currently in the market to purchase a new tahoe or yukon and would like your input. I currently have a 98 tahoe that i have owned for about 10 years and over all it has been a fantastic vehicle. The truck still runs great its just time to upgrade after ten years. So i am looking at either getting a 07 yukon or tahoe I want the 5.3 so if i get a yukon it wont be the denali with the 6.0. I know 07 was the first year of the new body style and just wondering if there is anything i should be looking for that would steer me away from getting one in this year. The reason i say 07 is because i want the newer body style and the prices obviously get more expensive the newer you go. I was reading a little about them having an oil consumption problem and was wondering what the cause of that was and if they improved that in 08 or later years. I have worked in many car dealerships over the years and It always seemed that you wanna stay away from the first year of a new body style or any re design it just always seemed that they needed a year or two to work the bugs out but maby its just me i know they have been using the 5.3 for some time now and i never really heard of them having a oil consumption problem till 07 but maby they did and i just dont know about it. Did they do something different with the 5.3 in 07 when they came out with the new body style?? Thanks for taking the time to read my post and would appreciate and feedback thanks

I have an 07 suburban with the LTZ trim. Its the first Chevy I've ever been disappointed in. It just aged faster than it should have. But the good news is that I haven't paid for an oil change since 25k miles because they have been "monitoring oil consumption" on it for years. It now has over 80k. Guess they figure picking the vehicle up from my shop to do the oil change every time the low oil sensor goes off is cheaper than an engine swap. Some of the plastics weren't nailed down yet on the 07, as 73shark mentioned. I'll add to his couple of examples that the soft coating on the steering wheel spokes peels off it you look at it wrong. I'm just disappointed because the old suburbans with the 350 used to be 15 year vehicles if they weren't abused. Maybe I just got one that was finished at 5:00 on a Friday before a long holiday weekend.
Thank you guys for your input. I have read alot about the oil consumption problems witch really bums me out cuz i love my older Tahoe and really like the newer ones. cracked dash and some door handle problems i could deal with but motor problems is kind of a big deal. I don't understand how chevy has not recalled this problem and fixed it. I am a big fan of gm products and refuse to buy from another company. Not that others dont make a good product i just think gm is better but that is my opinion. Well on for more research thanks
I hate to say this but mine is a "built in Mexico" 07 Suburban2500. I'm pushing 93,000
miles on it and use NO oil, my dash is perfect and have had no door handle issues as well as any other major issues. This morning it was 10 deg. below zero (air temp) and other than the Tires showing low pressure it ran great and started easily after being parked outside all day. Personally its how well the vehicle is maintained from the get go. I love my suburban.

Yeah I could kick myself for not getting the 2500 and the 6.0L engine. I've been through the oil consumption tests and 2 service bulletins, and now they're just picking it up and "monitoring consumption" and changing the oil for me every few weeks when the sensor goes off. I guess that is all they can get GM to pay for. No where else for them to go other than polishing the block and replacing all the piston rings, which I don't think is on a service bulletin yet.

My 07 Tahoe has 168k on it and doesnt loose or burn any oil. Carbon build up was a small problem when I first got it. Other than a mirror that had to be replaced this week and a rattle in the rear liftgate area I cant find I've had nothing that would keep from getting another one or a Yukon if something happened to this one.
