Default 2003 5.3L TPS location

Codes P0220 and P0306

Car has low idle and low power initially when in reverse or drive. As I first accelerate i feel the hesitation or the misfiring unless i open it up or getting going above 60 and then I cruise with no problem. However even then if i go up a hill and have to press on the gas it will hesitate/misfire.

Anyway I am attempting to change the TPS but it doesnt seem to be where the books says it is. Could it be mounted inside a box that is riveted to the throttle body.

Here is a pic of the side of the Throttle Body with the riveted box.

Welcome to the forum.

If the box you refer to is coaxial w/ the throttle shaft, then that's the TPS.

You have a electronic throttle body aka drive by wire. You have no throttle cables. The throttle position sensor is made into the t-body, it is not serviced separately. Inside the riveted box is the motor that moves the throttle plates. The problem could be the throttle body or the sensor on the gas pedal. They also had a issue with the wires at the t-body. PO306 is a cylinder #6 misfire. A bad TPS, throttle body or app sensor (sensor on the gas pedal) will NOT cause a single cylinder misfire. I have seen on Ford products that when a ignition coil goes bad it cause RF interference in the TAC (throttle actuator control) system causing false TAC, TPS codes. Your truck most likely is running bad due to PO306. I would fix that first then see what happens with the P0220. Pull the wire off number 6 spark plug, place it next to metal or use a spark checker, start the truck and see if the coil is sparking.
