My transmission is shifting into different gears upon starting the engine. Often times when I start the engine, it puts itself into 4wd, or the red light on the transmission controller unit (on the far left of the dash)indicates it's in neutral. I then have to stop, put it in park, push the 2wd button, and then put it back into Drive. Has anyone experienced this problem and have any suggestions on what the repairs might involve? Any help is much appreciated.

Any recent work been done before this problem showed up?

Might try disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes.

 

I'll try and disconnect the battery and see if that makes a difference.
