I feel Shark is on to something. I had a similar problem in my 04 2500 around June 2012. I would do this each time I released the brake.

Finally, the cable connecting the release broke. It seems the braided cable was worn-out and preventing the break from fully releasing. I replaced the cable and have not seen the warning since then.

Something to consider!

Happy Dance here! After troubleshooting and asking for help on this forum, the problem was solved. It was the Parking Brake switch, it broke off at the Grounding piece and I had it replaced for under $100.00 at the dealer. Thank you so much everyone!...now onto the cluster.....

Hi, I posted about my instrument cluster problem in a different thread on this forum. With the help of this forum and YouTube, I got it out, gently tore it apart checked all the leads, soldered a few leads that I thought might be amuck...put it back together...but the Gear Selection continues to fade in and out.....PRND321...So I think I need to send the cluster off to someone more of an expert..I tried and am thrilled with the knowledge I learned from here and YouTube!

my solution was to simply grab onto the emergency brake pedal and pull it up

Smile Somewhat similar issue on 2015 Malibu

Sometimes, even when the parking brake is released, I'll get the chime for a while on the Malibu. No warning light of any kind appears on the instrument panel. I believe what may have started this is I've driven for short distances with the parking brake on and not realized it. Then, I'll release it. So now, sometimes the chime goes off even when the parking brake is released. I've tried to set the parking brake and release it several times to see if that fixes it. That seems to work. If the problem continues, I may have to bring the car in for some work.
