2005 Silverado - Shifter mechanism
120,000 miles. After the truck sat two weeks I started the truck, went to put it in gear and the lever moves from Park to 1st gear as if the lever isn't connected to anything, no resistance at all.
Any and All advice will be appreciated.

While the transmissions common on these trucks such as the 4L60E are electronically controlled, they also use a shift cable from the steering column to a shift lever on the side of the transmission housing itself. Sounds like that cable is disconnected, either up in the dash/column, or under the truck. Or the cable broke. I would start by looking at the end that connects to the transmission, but it might be under a transfer case shield.
More info, gleaned from my copy of Haynes for the 1999 - 2006 Silverado...
The shift cable is a 2 part design, so that if EITHER end breaks, just that end can be replaced without replacing both ends. They do caution to disable the Theftlock audio system, if equipped, prior to disconnecting the battery and performing the cable replacement. The Haynes book has instructions for checking and replacing the transmission end (lower cable) and steering column end (upper cable). The two cables join together under the vehicle, so if the issue is the upper half, you have to thread it through a cable grommet, after removing some kick plates and other stuff to gain access.
If you don't have the Haynes manual, I am sure someone on Youtube has a video of replacing this cable on a GMT800, or go pickup a copy of the Haynes book somewhere...
Here is what I found on Charm for it:

You were correct. It was the cable end at the transmission that came off. I was able to slip the cable back onto the ball stud, I'm holding it on temporarily with a zip tie until I can get the proper bushings. Thanks again for your help, this was a real problem until you helped me how easy the repair was.
Glad I could help! As I recall there is a clip that holds the cable end onto the shift lever. Sounds like the clip just fell off and the cable popped off. You are lucky it was at home when this happened…
