2005 Suburban, Air bag message, no steering wheel controls
Hi,
Just got a suburban to tow my enclosed bike trailer for my shop. The digital message on the dash keeps telling me to Service Air bag and none of the controls on the dash work> Could these problems be related?
Thanks
Mike

I could see the steering wheel controls being related but not anything on the dash.
commom connection for the driver air bag and steering wheel controls is through the clockspring/sir coil.

Not for a diy.
proper way to check this is with a sir load tool. the tool simulates the air bag resistance. the air bag is removed and the tool plugged in place of the air bag. if the code clears, the airbag is at fault. if the code remains, the tool is plugged in at the base of the steering column. if the code clears, you need a new sir coil.

I forgot to mention that the "Service Traction" is coming up on the message area also?????Any chance all these are related to a single problem or is it more likely separate issues?
