Unhappy 2007 Tahoe Shifter moves, transmission not

Strange problem just this afternoon. I'd been driving my Tahoe for most of the day, came home and parked it for a couple of hours. Later, came back and tried driving it. I can start the vehicle, but the transmission won't shift out of park. I have my foot on the brake and the shifter can be moved freely up and down, but the transmission is stuck in park. What's going on?

Found the problem...the mechancial linkage to the top of the transmission popped out of its joint. This is the one underneath the vehicle, directly connected to the tranny. Now, how the hell did that pop out so easily?!?!?

Maybe something broke or came loose and fell off. Not familiar w/ how it is connected. Might check w/ dealer service.

I would agree with 73shark. Have it looked at and make sure that whatever caused the issue is repaired so you don't have this happen again. I hope that helps and if you do go in to the dealer let us know what happens. Thank you.
