Its been a while since anyone updated this topic.....has anyone had better success with activating a BlueTooth VCIM in an 07/08 vehicle?

I haven't heard much on any of the forums so Im guessing most have given up on the On* portion and are just happy with the OEM BlueTooth.

I have to admit I thought I would miss On* but I don't! and the OEM BlueTooth is so good its well worth the loss of On*.

I'm anticipating that some will want to upgrade their navigation units, and the question that will be asked the most is, "What's the part number?" I'm hoping that there will be some availability of these units on Ebay slowly but surely after the release of the 2009's as I myself definitely want one. (With that being said when the time comes if anyone has one to unload please keep me in mind.)

So let's try to keep all of the posts and updates for the new 2009 Navigation Unit w/XM NavTraffic right here. And if there's a part number for it already, please post!
what are new feastures of the upgraded navigation system ?

During the three months I tried the feature, the construction information never changed for my area (Cleveland/Akron, OH) It only showed major highway construction, nothing on state or county roads.

I didn't find it more annoying than useful.
what's the alternative then ?

I think you might be confusing two separate steps.

If you got a new Denso OEM Navigation/DVD Radio it will have to be programmed with the TEC2 tool in order to have it match your vehicle and new VIN. When powered up a new radio from another vehicle will display THEFTLOCK and thats a simple programming at the dealership.

The BlueTooth is inside the VCIM doesn't need programming to work. All the VCIM programming you heard discussed was to get the On* part of the VCIM working.

The TIS2WEB programming of the VCIM with the TEC2 tool was again to sync the new BlueTooth VCIM with the new vehicle.

After all the work I did with the very patient dealership tech in my area Im convinced now that this NON-ACTIVATION of the new VCIM is simply an On* internal policy.

Even the On* tech says he can see my VCIM, see the vehicle location, see the button activations but they won't activate the new VCIM because it's not the originally specified VCIM.

I gave up!

Your right the BlueTooth is superb and far outweighs the loss of On*

I guess the compromise is that when I push the RED On* emergency button I get someone who answers and can help if I need it.

You would think with the way Ford SYNC is killing On* and all other vehicle technology systems that GM would want to activate as many vehicles as possible but I guess not.

We know upgrades work because On* swapped out all those older analog VCIM's to upgrade them to newer digital VCIM's so if they want to do it they can.

Im looking to trade my truck in for the new 2011 Ford Explorer, go check out the technology in that vehicle!

In the thread you referenced I said the guys on this forum were right because they told me a new BlueTooth VCIM from a 2010 Camaro would NOT work in my 2007 Yukon Denali.

The 2010 Camaro VCIM is from a newer vehicle with completely different electronics. At the time I didn't understand the difference and thought ANY BlueTooth VCIM from any GM vehicle would work in my 2007, I was wrong it didn't work. So when the 2010 Camaro BlueTooth VCIM was sold to a guy with the right vehicle (2010 Camaro) it worked fine.

If you have a 2007-09 GM Truck with the non BlueTooth VCIM you will need the GM Truck Bluetooth VCIM that came in the 2009 vehicles.

2009 was the first year our trucks started to get BlueTooth.

This thread or one of the big threads on GM-Trucks Forum will have all the part numbers for you.

You need the BlueTooth VCIM and the BlueTooth antenna that is plugged into the VCIM.
