2012 Suburban 5.3 Flex Fuel Oil. Dexos1 Required?
Getting ready to change the oil for first time on my Suburban and want to assure I meet warranty requirements. I prefer Valvoline as the change center is close and I have used them on other vehicles. Do I have to use the Dexos1 compliant oil or can I use as GM puts it "equivalent"? What exactly does equivalent mean? Can I use a non synthetic and change every 3000 miles as I usually do, or use the Valvoline Durablend(it is dexos1 compliant) and go 5000 to 7000? Opinions/advice appreciated.

As long as the Oil says Dexos approved on the label, any brand should be fine.
I prefer full synthetic myself.
All new GM cars today, except Corvette-Mobil 1 full synthetic, are factory filled will a synthetic blend.
Mobil 1 is what I use in all my vehicles and change in 5000 mile increments, easy to remember, and just reset the OLM to 100%

i use mobil 1 and change at 5000 mile intervals too. never had an issue and never burned a drop.
on my 2012 tahoe i wanted mobil 1 from the onset but they had the dexos only. they tried to push that but i insisted, and got mobil 1
