Chevrolet Brought a Very Special Suburban to the 2015 Dallas Auto Show

If you're anything like me, when you think of an institution, you picture a building that's been standing for decades. You don't usually imagine a vehicle. Since 1908, General Motors has produced both kinds of institutions - the Arlington Assembly Plant and the Chevrolet Suburban, in particular.

100 years later they still burn oil and blow smoke... wow... that's... that's progress.
In just 30 years we've gone from fuzzy boat anchor black and white TVs the size of refrigerators and the cost of a used car, to 4k flat screens that are under 1" thick and a few hundred bucks...
Silly cars. Their lack of progress is disturbing.

Isn't that amazing? A Honda and Toyota tie for #1
My wife's grand father tried giving her grief for her Mazda Tribute. It came off the SAME assembly line as the Ford Escape. (With better brakes and a longer warranty)! Mazda used rear disc... Ford uses rear drum... because... it's 1954?
Fiat (Chrysler) also did very poorly recently... http://jalopnik.com/fiat-chrysler-br...eli-1651337569
My next one will be another Tesla, but I'll need something to tow with. Outside of GM/Ford/Fiat... who can haul? Toyota can't tow 20,000 lbs... Can it? Nissan Can't.... a F-350 is most likely what I'll end up with.. mostly from my disdain of GM at this point. I really like the RAM 3500, but the reliability issues concern me... I want to tow a heavy trailer (boat)... but I want a nice cushy inside... GM and RAM do that... Ford... it's still too much a truck on the inside..
But for a people carrier... I'd never even remotely consider GM/Ford. My recent trip to get my Tesla inspected at a BMW dealer showed me path... if I don't go electric... they know how to treat you! and at $50-70k... I suddenly don't find them as expensive as I once did... especially when a new Tahoe can push $65,000! Soon as I walked in... "Hello Sir! can I get you a coffee? we have snacks out in the waiting area".. (which was 6 huge nice chairs around a flat screen mounted above an in wall gas fireplace... omg I was in heaven... I wanted this as my house! with floor to ceiling windows in the showroom, and the sales guys dressed impeccably. GM just doesn't rise to that level when they present a $55k Tahoe (one I bought).
Wow Nissan made the US list... that's impressive.
At least Mazda is trying... some of there new sedans are pretty sexy. Nissan... I just don't see them really trying to stay alive... I wonder if anyone would buy them out.
As for the topic at hand... Yes the 'Burbans come a long way, and it's impressive to have a single nameplate for that long period, but where it goes in the next 10 years will be further than it's come in the last 100. (or at least let's hope so). Everything in our world is now developing at an ever acceleration pace... let's hope that proves useful.
