Default cig lighter pops fuse in gps car charger

Greetings. Don't smoke so never use the lighter accessory. Garmin gps not working. Looked at 2 amp fuse inside gps charger plug-in and it was popped. Got new fuse in and tried again. Fuse pops. Another fuse in and tried in other two Tahoe lighters. Both worked and did not pop fuse.

Looked inside suspect accessory and see that it is missing a round plastic insert way in the back. Probably 1/8 inch thick and looks like a hose washer. Probably this is the reason fuse pops.

Any thoughts as to what exactly this part might be....or do I pry one out of the back seat lighter and use it. (I am a auto dunce. Will I short something out and cause a problem )? I can probably find the fuse under the hood or under dash and remove it, before my attempt.

Any help is appreciated.

Problem in the socket, you should be able to replace it.

All the auto parts stores sell replacement sockets and they are fairly cheap.

Hi and thanks for the replies. I am an automotive dunce and handyman dunce. So....I will go to the local Chev dealer and get the OEM part or parts.......and go to nearby auto shop that I have used for years and have them install.

You will pay a lot more at the dealer for parts than necessary. Installation is easy and will also cost a lot.
