Default Coolant temp

I have a 2004 Chevy Tahoe 5.3l Z71 and my coolant temp keeps reading low. I changed the coolant sensor 3 times. Changed the thermostat 3 times and still getting low readings. Plus I'm getting a code saying it lost communication with the drivers information panel. I had that rebuilt and still, I'm having the same problems with both. Have anyone had these problems before? Plz, help!!

No, but you can increase the temperature to get through the winter by using some material, like covered canvas as truckers do, to block airflow over your radiator. Don't go too far, no more then half-way should help.bring your heat up to normal until you can make a permanent repair or find the cause in the first place.

Your engine was designed to run properly at the desired temperature programmed into the ECU, so you'll increase power and gas-mileage to normal in the meantime. If your panel gauge isn't reading properly use a thermometer to check it. You can reuse it on the dash outlets to see what your true temperatures are when summer comes around if you purchase one that comes with a clip at a parts store or online.

Welcome to the forum. I would suspect a bad gauge. Since you've already replaced the thermostat three times, the only way I know of for an engine not to heat up is with an open thermostat. So that either leaves an electronic problem or a third bad thermostat. Were any of the previous thermostats removed stuck partially open? They don't have to be open very far to prevent an engine from warming up.

I don't think I checked to see if the old thermostat was open or not. I checked to see if the temp sensor was getting power. It was at a 5 on my circuit tool. I dunno if the circuit supposes to be any higher. I replace the harness on the temp sensor. I'm just at a lost

Did you use a GM sensor. Aftermarket ones are not reliable.

Probably the gauge. A non contact temp gun would give you actual temperatures. It's a handy DIY tool. Good for tracking down sticking calipers also.

All your hoses are in good shape? I had to ask even if I believe you have. Also the cooling-system/engine have no air inside whatsoever?
