Does your Nav DVD system make noise when the vehicle is off?

Default Does your Nav DVD system make noise when the vehicle is off?

My 2011 2500 Sub has the Nav option. When there's a CD or DVD loaded into the unit, it seems to always be 'moving' or 'processing' something. If I walk out into the garage to grab something out of the passenger seat, I'll hear the unit making noise as I stick my head in. Anybody else experienced this or know what it is?

Thanks!

Any time you open a door, the Nav spins up the DVD in preparation for use. It's normal.

Thanks guys! I'm glad to hear it's normal. Doesn't make much sense to me. In addition to wearing out the battery faster, it's also wearing out my Nav unit faster!

Install a second battery and you don't have to worry.

+1 on this. The space is there. Might as well use it.

Just leave the door open and it'll never go to sleep. :

Ha. Well I'm just glad it working as designed and there are no gremlins! There's an Audio Toyz home and vehicle electronics store in the place where I get my car washed. I inquired into an after market Nav unit for the Burb and it was $2495.00! That's more than I spent on my wheels and tires! So I'm trying hard to take care of my stock unit, and listening to it process while the car is not running is pissing me off.

Default yea

I know why they did it (access times from the DVD). but still it seems... stupid to be honest.

I think GM gave up on updates too. I have the 2013 DVD and I think that's the last one ever made...

My other car company *cough cough* has free google maps and comes with 7 years of free navigation upgrades.
