Yep. That was my issue. Adjusted dimmer switch to a higher setting and I could then see the dashboard, radio, and A/C panel lights in the daylight. THANK YOU!

Default 2008 tahoe when auto or manual headlights come on the instrument lights go off

Found on my 2008 Tahoe the instrument lights on all the gauges aren't working when the auto headlights come on or manually turning headlights on. The problem is the driver's side sun visor is shorting out when you move it and causing dash lights to go off. So take and move visor back and forth towards windshield and dash lights will flicker on and off. You can remove visor and unplug connector until you can replace the visor to fix problem with dash lights.

The sun visor and dome lights were the issue. Disconnected both and now dash lights work fine with headlights on
