2008chevtruck,
If you would like for us to check into this further with you and your dealership, we could be happy to do so. Please contact us privately with more information (including your name and contact information, the last 8 digits of your VIN and mileage, and a summary of the situation).

Unfortunately, the solenoid is embedded in a riveted integrated Lock-Latch-Actuator Assemby. It is the latch that hits the body strike plate, has the actuator solenoid and the locking mechanism. It has several electrical and mechanical connections.

For a 2008 cheve truck:
The P/N of the passenger side Lock-latch-actuator is 25876383.
The P/N of the driver side Lock-latch-actuator is 25876382.

Louis,

Thanks for your help. After a little negotiation with my dealer (Reliable Chevrolet), I obtained a satisfactory solution. I did pay some, but it was a good deal for me and a fair compromise.

I did give them one of your e-mails with the SR# and your contact information when I was negotiating. They may have contacted you separately. When I picked up the vehicle I didn't discuss or update any of those details.

Thanks again,
Paul 2008chevtruck

No, there is no after market "kit" that you can buy to address this failure. These latches are operated by a small 12V electric motor or sometimes called an actuator.
The failure is within the motor. The grease used in the manufacturing process (for 2008/9 model years) will separate to it's primary component>>>oil. The grease does not come from an outside source and water/salt has no effect on this system.

The fallure occurs when the carbon from the motor brushes builds up around the oil covered actuator motor and shorts the communitator. Result is a direct short... no power lock or unlock function.
Okay.. How much is the actuator, because i just went to Oreilly, and yeah, they said they couldnt order it .. So im guessing dealers item. My question is, whats the price on something like that.. And does someone have a guide for taking this out and replacing.. I dont even know how to take the door panel off.. Im sure i can, but i want to do so without breaking a clip or something.

Romeo5k, there are some threads in the forum that show how to remove the door panel but YouTube is your real friend here... Checkout YouTube for some door panel removal video :-)

[UOTE=Unhappy with my 3rd suburban;241953]yep, here is the scenario, they ask for the VIN, then they ask for your case number, then oh so sorry, your plastic handles have broke and your door actuators will eventually break and you will either pay us $270 each or we can give you the run around[/QUOTE]

I have had the same problem with the door actuators, however after several months of not working they have spontaneously started working again. Chevy says not possible and yet here we are 5 months later and working. Truth seems to be that they don't really know what the problem is.

If they have started working after not working for sometime, I would suspect a loose or poor connection, most likely at the drivers door switch panel...
