Welcome to the forum...
I have not had one fail so I can't speak to personal experience, however I would offer up the idea of removing the door panel and checking for binding or wire ware... IF replacement is needed you may be able to install and after market solenoid that are relativity inexpensive via EBay or Amazon... they are all 12v and most are universal fit...

Louis,
Thanks for your help. After a little negotiation with my dealer (Reliable Chevrolet), I obtained a satisfactory solution. I did pay some, but it was a good deal for me and a fair compromise.
I did give them one of your e-mails with the SR# and your contact information when I was negotiating. They may have contacted you separately. When I picked up the vehicle I didn't discuss or update any of those details.
Thanks again,
Paul 2008chevtruck

I haven't reviewed this thread for a long time but just to clear the air on this issue.
No, there is no after market "kit" that you can buy to address this failure. These latches are operated by a small 12V electric motor or sometimes called an actuator.
The failure is within the motor. The grease used in the manufacturing process (for 2008/9 model years) will separate to it's primary component>>>oil. The grease does not come from an outside source and water/salt has no effect on this system.
The fallure occurs when the carbon from the motor brushes builds up around the oil covered actuator motor and shorts the communitator. Result is a direct short... no power lock or unlock function.

I went to this store, to price out an alarm for the truck.. And the story goes on.I say well, i gotta wait to buy .I gotta fix a 2008 door actuator. He talls me he has that too.. for 35$. Im like huh?? 35$? FO REAL???, I said, you sure this fixes the door lock actuator on a 2008 'Burban.. he says yes. So i come home to watch the youtube videos, They have a completely different piece.. And im like WTF is this i got??
I guess, some things i just have to go to the dealership for, cause now i have a piece, and dunno wtf its for. ANd my door still has to be manually locked and Unlocked!

[UOTE=Unhappy with my 3rd suburban;241953]yep, here is the scenario, they ask for the VIN, then they ask for your case number, then oh so sorry, your plastic handles have broke and your door actuators will eventually break and you will either pay us $270 each or we can give you the run around[/QUOTE]
I have had the same problem with the door actuators, however after several months of not working they have spontaneously started working again. Chevy says not possible and yet here we are 5 months later and working. Truth seems to be that they don't really know what the problem is.
