Wow 188 views and no replies. Well I have done a little research and, does anyone know if they have a fix for the AFM for the 5.3 yet?

I don't know if they have a "fix" more than there are TSB's out on the matter. It would seem that just about any 5.3 "can" be affected, its just a matter of "if" it will be. That said, if you can afford it, the newer the better. Plus I think in 2008 they went to the 6 speed transmission....or is it 8?...anyways, its better than the 4l60e from what I have heard. Actually I think thats on the tahoe and silverados...burbs might be different.

Personally, I bought my 07 tahoe with 178k on the clock and 5.3l engine, no problems to date...knock on wood. I will say I drove a few different ones of varying years and miles, and still ended up with the one that had the most mileage on it. Looked cleaner and sounded a whole lot better.

Oh, I do have a slight problem. Rear backup camera is flaky right now...too cold to look at it though.

Because it's a frequently-asked topic. There's at least one thread a month on this topic.

Considering '07-'11 Suburban, what to look out for?

scared of buying an 11th gen suburban!! afm and rings blowby

Tahoe or Suburbans to avoid?

Short version: I'm in the market for that year range as well. Call me paranoid but 5.3 trucks are off the table. I'm looking at 2500s (6L), Denalis and Escalades (6.2L). My '08 2500 has been the best damn truck I've ever owned.

Thanks for the links! Im still thinking of getting a 5.3 with AFM but, I plan to delete it. During my research of the problems I found kits for around $400 that will delete the AFM on the 5.3 engines without the programmer.

I found a 2009 2500 with the 6 speed transmission. But I've read that they have horrible gas mileage. Can you tell me what type of numbers your getting before and after your Blackbear EFI live?

I get 11-12 around town, and 15-16 on steady highway cruising. I honestly don't recall my numbers before the tune, but I don't think they were that different.

The 11-12 around town is likely affected by frequent idling and heavy remote start usage. We've had some brutally cold weather here. On the upside, you have a 39-gallon tank, so you still have a 500+ mile range with highway driving.

That is not too bad. My old F350 6.0 diesel seemed to get 10-11 no matter where and how I drove it.
