Can anyone tell me why my 96 tahoe would leak antifreeze?

 

Where is it leaking? Radiator? Hose? Engine? and welcome to the forum.

 

Thanks again! I'll tell you where it's not leaking... There isn't any water on the passenger side floor , and it's not leaking in the front or from the top... Any clue?

 

a little more clarification... is it hitting the ground or is it using it...

if its using but not hitting the ground its probably a head gasket and its being consumed by the engine

if its hitting the ground, it could be the crappy plastic connector that goes into the top of the engine and is running down the top of the intake and down by the tranny.

It could be the water pump weeping, could be the heater core

if hitting the ground where in relationship to the truck are you seeing it?

 

You need someone to perform a pressure test. You could also go to a auto parts store and get some coolant dye after a day or so you will be able to find the leak for sure. It is very rare for headgaskets to leak on the 350 (5.7). Intake gaskets are famous along with the heater hose fitting on the intake. Waterpump or radiator should be fairly obvious. Sometimes parts only leak at certain temps.

 

Everyone is so helpful here..... You guys are truely great, you have given me several options... I appreciate everything, my biggest worry is that is going to be the head gasket, even though i truley don't believe it is.... I've been told that it would be extremely costly... I think i'm going to start with the dye first and find out exactly where the leak is.... By the way does anyone know if the issues are outrageous to fix or if i can do it my maybe?

 

the why is because its 13 years old.... but my 14 year old one is doing well.... now...

I've replaced the water pump and radiator 2x...

they are both easy jobs.

also the funny screw connector to the top rear of the block/manifold broke, so I removed / cleaned / put a new one in.

I've also replaced the heater core at 200,000 as it leaked coolant ALL OVER the freaking truck.

all fairly 'easy' jobs.

the water pump isn't exactly fun, just make sure you RTV it correctly; else you will do it 2x... mine was leaking from what looked like the back of the block, it was, in fact, leaking from the pump, then flowing along the underside, to the back, then dripping out....

when it only leaked about a gallon /month, it wasn't worth fixing.. then when it dumped 3+ gallons in a parking lot at once; it was time

 

I'm a little confused, is it leaking coolant or consuming it?
