- Chevrolet Silverado GMT800, GMT900, and K2XX How to Program HomeLink
Step by step instructions for do-it-yourself repairs
Home Link and Apartment complex?
our apartment uses key fobs to open the gates to get in. Its a3 button fob, but we only use two of them. Is there any way to program my homelink system so I don't have to carry an extra remote around?
First, ascertain if the transmitter in your apartment gate is compatible with the homelink system. If so, then you should be able to follow the instructions provided in your manual to "learn" the Homelink system.
Easy way to tell what system you have is to look at the overhead 3-button controls:
If you have a single (triangle shaped) red LED then you have Homelink.
If you have 3 round green LEDS then you have the Lear Car2U system.
The shark is correct the early production 07's had Homelink and the later build units have Car2U.

Yup went out and look at lunch its the green three button Car2U, they were very easy to program and the uni remote was one of the options I looked for in my purchase. Thou I sure wish they would have make a place for my sunglasses to go like I had on my 97 Tahoe with the overhead console, but even then the sunroof put the kabosh on that...

Remember the newer versions are NOT homelink. If it has 3 LEDS then you have the Car2U.

Gotta make a statement, sorry ZX you might not like this.
I waspissed when I got my latest GM vehicle and it wouldnt program with my garage doors. Yes, it is the newer Lear Car2U PITA system. IMO it isnt even close to the system in our homelink vehicles. It is much more difficult to program. It also is the only system I have had in 13 vehicles that wouldnt program to our garage doors. Our house and garage door system isnt even 5 years old. I was very disappointed when I learned about the new Lear system and the incompatibility with our garage doors.
I will say that Lear Customer Service was good in working with me. But after hours of trying to get my doors programed by myself, then an hour or so with the representative on the phone repeating the same steps it still wouldnt work. They in turn sent me these modules that you plug into any outlet and then connect 2 wires to your garage door motor. So I now have some more decoration on my garage roof and added a touch to my electricity bill
. The instructions that came with the modules were also incorrect. So I waited on hold 45 minutes for them to tell me that the instructions were wrong and to give me the correct installation process.
Anyways, my system does work but so far I see no benefit of Lear over Homelink. In fact it has been a pain. Lear customer service was very friendly and easy to work with but their systems to not have all of the codes or whatever they are called that homelink has for garage door compatibility.
Sorry for the rant, just hope that GM goes back to homelink no matter what the cost difference in production is. Other than this, I have to say I love my new GM vehicle. Best truck I have owned.
