Instrument cluster backlighting
2005+newer GM models with automatic exterior lighting system have the instrument panel lighting issue. On rainy, overcast,or foggy days the headlights come, but the instrument panel lights do not. The problem occurs in automatic or manual modes. Black face guages add to the irritation. The problem is the BCM(body control module), even though the BCM is reprogrammable, it can not be reprogrammed to cure the instrument panel issue(default settings?). GM has issued service bulletins to dealers that basically state: the condition is considered "normal", and will offer no warranty service. The NHTSA is taking complaints/investigating (TSB#3379 /NHTSA ID#10020228 & TSB#060849016/NHTSA ID#10020735). Haynes Repair manual(model specific)have wiring diagrams in the back. Look for the lead from the BCM to the instrument panel dimmer switch/rheostat. White faced guages can be found on Ebay, but there may be issues installing them due to the DIC(driver information center-not "plug & play"))
They sure are available in a white overlay from US Speedo as I have already installed them in mine. Looking at white guages over the dash to a white hood looks pretty good!
