Default K2500 Rear/cargo doors... what model/years?

I'm starting to figure out what I like/don't like on the Suburbans and I think I am gravitating towards either the barn doors or the tailgate and top hatch... I DO NOT like the large one-piece hatch. I'm looking at Tenth gen (2000–2006) or Ninth gen (1992–1999) in the 3/4 ton flavor...

Can anyone point me at a reference that will tell me what years/models had which rear doors? Is it true that in some cases there were optional choices?

Thanks,
mark

At least on the 00-06 trucks, the barn doors were only ever option. The standard rear door was the one-piece tailgate, with a glass panel that also opens.

For those years, the 3/4 ton trucks are rare. 3/4 ton trucks with the barn doors almost approach mythical unicorn status.

For me personally, the only reason I can think of where the barn doors are superior is if you're needing to load the truck with a fork lift.

Barn doors have no rear wiper, and that back glass gets filthy in the winter. I prefer my rear wiper, and the tailgate as my "umbrella" in the rain.

Default Rear openings...

My '96 K2500 has the glass w/rear wiper and drop down end gate. I wouldn't have it any other way. Great if you need a place to sit to watch a game and you got the glass for shelter.

The barn doors are common around here. Two funeral homes have suburbans with barn doors. I guess they're good for that purpose. Maybe that's why I don't like them.
