It's the best of both worlds.

GM gives you no choice.

Has anyone tapped the parking lamps for anything?

I want 2 LED 'clearence' lights on the sides, on the vertical part of the running boards, I think it would look nice / neat...
Might check the fuse panel located at the end of the dash on the driver's side.

Default yes

while getting my probe on, the bottom left free pin has .5v with the key off and 12v with the key 'on'... so that one will work.

most of the power wires on this truck are hot all the time! no wonder the battery can't keep up...

as for the cigarette lighters always being hot I like it a lot!!! 'cause you can leave your cellphone charging, on the other hand I hate my wife's nissan I can't charge my phone in there 'cause the plug is only hot with the key, so is on and then I have to stop and is off, then back on the car again and is on again, that ruins your cellphone batt, so i will install a plug that will always be hot in her car.
and as for the acc wire in the newer trucks, yes there is a male pin in the junction box that is hot with the key, that is where I plugged my 12 cd changer and I don't have to worry when I exit the truck.
one thing I will do soon is I will plug to that male pin my 4 plug and it will be used for the radar detector and whatever needs to be on with the key, cooooooooolllll!!!!!!!

I added a hidden 12v on at all times for my Garmin, I did it to remove the power cord from always being plugged in to the console outlets as it kinda ruins the looks.... Its hard to see the 12v outlet behind the support but it works well and I can conceal all the power cord all the way to the dash, where it comes out for the Navi...
Anyway you may want to check this panel for what you are looking for as the other available pins may be key powered....

Good idea. good information. I may use this for my Tahoe.
