I had a buddy who had a similar problem and he had a random shop do some adjusting and everything went down the tubes after that. He ended up going to the dealership where he bought it from and they hit him for $1200. They said it would have only cost him a few hundred if he would have taken it to them the first time.

 

What kind of adjusting did this "random shop" do?

 

Trans fluid or kerosene can work to loosen lifters, desolve sludge and varnish but don't add more then 1qt and don't do it to any vehicle that is of much value.

 

I have an 05 z71 Tahoe and the engine(lifters) make quite a bit of noise but it doesn't do it all of the time. Sometimes it will make the noise when it starts and sometime it will not. sometimes it will go all day and never tick and then it will tick all day. I have been told to rebuild the top end of my engine. the engine has close to 200,000 miles. The more I read the more I'm not sure what to do.

might be a good idea to check/monitor oil pressure, not that at 200k shes not worn but it could be poor oil pressure...

 

hey man do you mind tellin me what was the problem that the dealer found wrong with your friends truck.

 

Mine does that and will continue to do it. It's a dry lifter on start up. They tell me that it won't hurt anything so, I have decided to ignore it.
