Default New brakes @ 30K for 07 Tahoe???

After taking my 07 Tahoe with 30K mileage in for service last week and complaining about a vibration when I brake, my dealer informed me that I need new front brakes and I should get them soon as there is very little life left. I haven't noticed any decline in braking power at all. In fact, they seemed almost as good as the loaner Tahoe I was given. I asked them to smooth the rotors and they said I needednew brakes. I found this very hard to believe because I drive mostly highway miles and I'm pretty easy on the brakes. I have never had to put new brakes on any vehicle I owned at this low of mileage. The dealer told me it wasn't uncommon for the previous generation Tahoe to need new brakes at 15K-20K milelage. Anyone else had this problem? Is this really common? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

well a lot of times it depends on how you drive and were usually you can go about 40 -45 thousand mile's .city driving and aggressive driving ( foot always ) on the brake peddle ,can lower it .some time's i am not in love with factory wear component's ,they generally last long enough to get you out of warranty !

The pads have scrapers on them that squeak/squeal as you step on the brakes when it's time to replace them.

Same thing happened to me at about 30k. GM covered new brakes and rotor replacement.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I have a call into GM and I'm hoping they will cover this. I just find it highly unusual that there is this issue and it wouldn't be covered. I'll keep my fingers crossed they take care of me.

J2THEB....Can you tell me what dealer you worked with or how you got GM to cover the brake replacement? Did you have to call customer service or did the dealer just turn it in?

A friend of mine is the service manager for a Chevy dealership. I complained of excesive brake noise from the front brakes and the rotors were severly worn with only about 30k on them. He replaced the brakepads with a different compound that GM had comeout with andresurfaced or replaced the rotors. That's what they told me anyway. Brakes sound and perform much better than before.
