Welcome to the forum...
I would NOT recommend running e-85 if you do not know if the engine is flex capable or not. You may need to have the alcohol reading reset if it is reading incorrectly...

not sure what fault you are describing but if its running bad with regular fuel; using flex fuel won't make it better.

Hey Rvaburb, wondering if you ever fixed this issue with your 04 burb and flex fuel sensor? I've been having the same flex fuel sensor issue on my 05 1500 suburban Z71 for some time, I get a P0179 code and I tap on the flex sensor and it goes away for a while. Recently had the same sold start issue that you had, it started and was running rich, gave me codes P0172 & P0175, I tapped on the flex sensor and it all cleared up again. I figure the PCM was trying to compensate for a bad reading from the flex fuel sensor and caused the rich condition. Like most I hate to replace the $400 flex sensor if I don't need too. Thx in advance for any help.

Default Flex fuel sensor

[QUOTE=schlepprock379;246399]Hey guys,we have an '04 Tahoe with a flex fuel 5.3. While driving today the engine light came on but was running fine, got home and run the scanner on it and it had the P0178 code showing for the flex fuel sensor. My question is,has anyone had experience with this situation, has anything else caused this very code to come up or is it an indication of the actual flex fuel sensor needing to be replaced? Oreillys has one for $448.00,I dont mind paying for the part as long as that is the cure and not a code from a symptom of something else.Again its been running fine..it has 161.xxx miles on it..Thanks..Phil[

Phil, my 05 Suburban pulling a P0179, it was the Flex Fuel sensor. I replaced it after some troubleshooting help from the below link with ACDelco PN 12570260, $350 from Amazon and been code free for 15 months now.https://sparkys-answers.com/2010/03/...ode-p0178.html
Good luck with yours, Mark
