Remote start half start?
Tried to remote start 07 Tahoe, it went though procedure and it started to crank then just stopped half way though, made small "clunk" sound, I then manually started it with no problems. Don't want to try again don't want to make worse. Any suggestions?
Without knowing what you heard it would be hard to say... but if you take it in the first thing the tech is likely to do is try it.... so that would be my suggest is to try it again.....
here are some reasons why it might not work and some areas to check... i.e. doors are all close, no codes set...
The RVS system will not operate if any of the following conditions are present:
• A current vehicle DTC that illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
• The vehicle is in valet mode.
• More than 2 remote starts have been attempted.
• The hazard switch is in the ON position.
• A current hazard switch DTC is set.
• The vehicle hood is ajar.
• A current hood ajar DTC is set.
• The CTD system detects an alarm trigger.
• Excessive engine RPM
• Excessive coolant temperature
• Accelerator pedal position greater than 0 percent
• Vehicle not in park
• Vehicle theft deterrent malfunction
• A current automatic transmission shift lock control system DRC is set.
• A vehicle speed sensor signal is detected by the ECM.

Under the conditions shown why would the computer stop half way instead of half cranking it?

If one of those conditions happened while remote start process was happening the process would likely stop...
I suspect its plausible that the remote could have sent a stop signal if you re-pressed the start button inadvertently...
My advice would be to:
Verify that the vehicle does indeed start with the key...
Check to see if any check engine or service engine lights are on, if you have a code reader verify that no codes are present,(not all code readers can read all body codes)
Open and close the hood to ensure it is properly closed..
Verify that the remote locks and un-locks the vehicle..
Retry the remote start function...
If you are uncertain of the age of the battery in the remote, or its more then a couple of years old, I would consider replacing it as a weak remote battery can do odd things... it may also be helpful to clean out the remote while you have it open with dry compressed air... (can of air duster)
.

Thanks for the info, will try and reply.

Didn't want to try again but finally did 2 days ago, checked all things to make sure doors, hood Etc... Was in proper position and went for it. It started fine, over last 2 days starts normal, thanks for the input. Taking it to a dealer is very expensive. I'm glad it's working again

Sometimes flukes happen...
I suspect it was an accidental second restart signal from the remote and the vehicle interpreted it as a shut down immediately command...
The sound you heard was the engine doing just that in the middle of start up, the spark was probably shut off but the pistons were still in mid motion with some fuel in place, something like dieseling....

Did you ever determine what the problem was. I have a 2013 Tahoe and just went through the same thing. Tried to remote start, it started and then shut down with a clunk. Started with the key, but the OBD II is on now.
