Remote Starter Range
To be honest.... I'm not seeing a great improvement.... I think it's pretty much the same as when I pulled the antenna wire out of the D post by the window. Let me know how yours goes though. Try to get pictures.
You said you could get it to operate from 800'? Heck I cant mine to work from more than 50-75'. Please clarify because if it does work from 800' I will order the antenna and do the install to mine.
I can tell you with certainty that you'll get a minimum of 600' with the factory antenna pulled out to the window. I need to do further testing with the external Crutchfield antenna for more definitives. That should be done today with hope.
OK... I used one of those little wheel on a stick things to get the actual distance. I tested by using the Horn button on the remote from where I normally exit the building. From that point it is 497 feet to my Tahoe in the parking lot. I can probably get a bit more range out of the new antenna if I move it from the verticle position to a horizontal position at the very top of the cargo glass. That's another day.
So for what it's worth, we'll say I now have a functional range of 500 feet with the RKE.

quite a bit better than my current range. I just would like to start it up from inside my office (100-150')to warm it up a little before I get in. As it is right now that is not possible. I will remove the antenna out of the wire bundle and try that but I think I will have to get one of those antennas.
Thanks for the info and I hope you arm gets better soon.

Did you wire it right to the box? Hmmmmm. Well I'll let you know my results later on this evening.
I am super excited about this though!! (I'm sure you've seen this but just in case)
GM is the first automaker to offer an LCD two-way remote start accessory. GM Accessories’ new 2-Way Advanced Remote Start System actually communicates important information about certain vehicle systems via a small LCD screen on the key fob. Users can see if the doors are locked or unlocked; determine whether the engine is running and see how much time is left before the vehicle will automatically shut off; check security status; find out current odometer mileage; see remaining fuel; check tire pressures in all four tires; and change radio station pre-sets.
Typical remote start systems work at distances of between two to three times the range of a factory-installed remote keyless entry system. GM’s 2-Way Advanced Remote Start System is designed to function at ranges of up to four to six times the typical keyless entry system, enabling users to start their vehicles from much greater distances.
The system will be available in the second quarter of 2007 on certain GM vehicles. Pricing for the system will range from under $150 MSRP up to $250 MSRP, depending on the vehicle’s factory options, plus dealer installation.

As for how I did it... just take a look at my pictures above.

I think I'm gonna do the - pull the antenna out of the wireloom trick to get the most I can out of the stock system.
I like the sounds of the new system though... I guess that is a stock photo and it will be available for our vehicles w/ rear hatch and window buttons and all...
