Default Roof Rack Removal

Has anyone removed their entire roof rack on '08 Tahoe yet?? I did mine today and I screwed the nuts back into the nut backs.
However, I'm worried that the nut backs will allow water to seep into the vehicle. It makes sense that there would be a gasket but I cannot tell.

Any thoughts on how to avoid water seepage (outside of putting roof racks back on)??

I haven't had a chance to look yet, are the cross rails easy to remove?
