Suburban Battery Drain
Have a 96 Chevy Suburban 350. The battery is constantly dead. There is a drain somewhere and hoping someone here has had a similar problem that was finally fixed. Just replaced the 3rd battery in the Suburban. I have been told that the ignition switch in the steering column causes this problem. Also been told that the fields in the starter shorting out can also cause the battery drain. My mechanic has been unable to find the problem. Any and all help appreciated.

15 years ago I had s similar parasitic drain issue on my 1998 Frontier. Then one day my daughter remarked that sometimes when one turned the key that the warning lights in the cluster lit up before they should. It was a Saturday and back then could not find a replacement electrical part of the ignition switch in-stock, so I installed a large toggle switch to interrupt power getting to the ignition switch, and after that everything was fine. One day, my other daughter and I were replacing the speakers in it, and the key was out but I forgot to flip the toggle switch, and suddenly stuff under the dash started activating. So that confirmed mine as bad ignition switch, and I replaced that and removed the toggle switch, good to this day.
Parasitic drain testing typically calls for removing fuses, etc., one at a time to isolate where the issue is. And I would start with the alternator.
