Default Third row seat back latch is intermittent.

I usually keep the third row seat back flipped down. While on vacation we needed that seating and I could not get the back up no matter how much I pulled on it while trying to release "#1". That happened two different days. When we got home I tried it again and it worked perfectly when I did not need it.
Your thoughts will be appreciated.

How nice to have Chevrolet helping in a forum!

Thanks Kristen A. When I get time I will try a dry lube silicone type spray in the mechanism. For now, the back is up.

The seat back will not release to go to the upright position unless the bottom is firmly latched. Sometimes you have to raise the seat to the upright position and slam it down to ensure it's latched in order to raise the seat back.

That to applies to me perfectly. I tossed some luggage on the lowered seat back for the 6 hour trip home. Then #1 released easily. Thanks.

You're welcome. Glad it worked. Those third row seat latches can be cantankerous at times.

Its always a good idea to check the seating surface prior to closing them, my kids are notorious for abandoning items in the back seats... you close the seat not knowing something is sitting in it and then can't figure out why the thing won't close or open...

Try pushing down on the seat (like trying to close it further) then try the latch with the pressure applied
