Yeah, I'm thinkin' it supports Onstar dialing through the navigation head-unit maybe? You know how you look up a business and it has the number with the "call" button, or when you have phone numbers saved in your address book? Again not too sure, just guessing.

After re-reading the installation instructions, I noticed something that might be affecting my situation. The first line of the install instructions state to turn on the vehicle and make sure the radio is off, then procede to hook the harness up. I did not take this step I simply installed it with the Tahoe ignition off. This could be the difference, once again this morning when starting the Tahoe up for the first of the day the nav system was blank, once restarted within a minute or so everything was online. I agree with TMW597 the product seems to be ok just a couple of kinks in possibly the install. We'll see this weekend I'll pull it out and follow those instructions to a "T'.
Hey, it can't hurt to try right!!?? I'm doubtful it will change anything, but will be happy for you if it does. Keep us posted.

I have installed the gen 2 today. Had very little trouble with the fake wood trim. Pryed it open a little to get a big flathead in there and applied a good amount of force and the clips popped out, nothing broken. I made sure the radio was off to begin with. Once I got everything installed I had the dip switch in the position for manual DVD override. When I started the car, my screen was blank, I freaked out for a few seconds, turned off the truck, and restarted it, the time showed up *sigh of relief*. Tested it out worked just fine, except for the nav override, maybe I was just gettting confused as to how many times i pushed it, and if it took the first 4 times i pushed the window switch.

UPDATE: A few hours after I installed the lockpick, I went to drive to the store and the screen was blank, no time, no power, nothing. Turned the car off and and back on and the time showed up. The next thingI noticed now that my rear entertainment screen, does not show the dvd playing. The front works fine. So IUNISTALLED the lockpick.

To get the dvd player to work normally w/o the lockpick installed I had do a trial and error. What I come to find out is now I just pop in the dvd, the rear screen works. BUT, if I turn the car off, with the dvd still in the player and come back to play the dvd, it wont show up on the rear screen at all. The only way for it to show up on the rear screen, is to eject the dvd and put it in again, remember I unstalled thelockpick at this point.Anyone having the same problem (blank rear screen) I have while the pick was installed? If you ask me this product is too buggy to sell. I'm going to contact them and see what they say.I'm thinkinginstalling thismessed up something in my dvd system sincei have to eject the dvd and put it back in to get it to playon the rear screen. But, in the meantime if anyone has suggestions or has the same problem please let me know. Thank you! Happy New Year!

I think that one has nothing to do with the other. What I mean by that is, I don't think the problem with the head-unit not powering up has anything to do with the GMLockPick. I think the head-unit not powering up is a problem that a lot of people have been having, and there are plenty of posts here on it. There's just really something buggy with the software/computer system. I've had similar problems and continue to from time to time. Hopefully they will all go away once I have all of the updates done at the dealership next month.

Curious though, why would you want to use the manual mode for the DVD? As far as the nav override goes, was your truck's navigation put in at the factory? If not, then I'm told the VSS wire has to be hooked up in order for the nav override to work.

It is tough to screw up this install, so my guess is that a few of us got some bad gear. If we didn't have bugs before the lock pick was added and we don't have any bugs once the lock pick was removed it is pretty obvious that something is wrong. I can't wait to hear what coastal has to say after they return from vacation, hopefully they have some answers. I really want this to work.

As far as the rear unit not coming on after you turn the Hoe back on while the DVD is in, that is normal. Someone posted how stupid it was to have to use the remote everytime you want to continue where you left off. I have the Gen I lockpick and it works just fine with the DVD overide and the Nav. Only problem I have is I believe the Nav wire is loose so it comes and goes on a bumpy road.

So, if you want the rear screen to come on, you have to put the DVD in each time or use the remote control to turn it on. Sucks but that is how it is now...maybe Costal can fix that with Gen III....

Hey TexasTahoe,

Did you mean that the issue I'm talking about isa "normal" problem from the factory and has nothing to do with my install of the lockpick or is it a normal problem with the lock pick?? Because I was pretty certain it was not like that before the virgin install. haha! If not, so now that my lockpick is uninstalled, is there something unfixable about my radio? Should I try to get it fixed? Honestly, if Coastal doesn't have a fix right now for the problem, I may have to ask them for some kind of compensationto get my radio fixed or replaced. Not trying to start any trouble with coastal, but my dvd player (installed at factory) isnt doing what it WAS doing before the install. THanks for you post, at least I know someone else has the same exact problem. I appreciate it.

TWM597,

I never had a problem with the powering up issue before I installed the lockpick. It started RIGHT after the install, the very first time I went to start the truck as a matter of fact. I don't have that problem anymore after I uninstalled it. Trust me my friend, I wish it was just a matter of updates to fix my problem not with my rear screen not working. Almost forgot, the answer is yes everything in my truck was done at the factory. I have not a single aftermarket part dealing with the dvd/radio/nav entertainment system besides the lockpick.

It wasn't a matter of preference to use the manual dvd override, it was a matter of testing the product to make sure the manual and auto override modes worked.Every aspect of the lockpick worked, it just wouldnt play on my rear screen at all. Thanks for your input though. Take it easy bro.

Jritchey,

I really want the product to work as well, I didnt have any bugs before the install, but after the UN-install, the lockpick created a bug somehow. I wont repeat my long drawn explanation, I'm sure you've read it already, its about 4 posts up. But we're in the same boat my friend, I love the product as well, but now its jacked up my radio, I dont know if I really want to keep it. If my dvd/radio/nav player wasnt messed up, I would just keep the pick and wait for a new version to come out and buy that. But now I have an issue caused by this product, which isnt cool in my book. If I decide to pursue compensation from them for my radio, i have a feeling they might just brush me off and give me the run around. But they can always come back and say well you installed it wrong or improperly and just give me the shaft, but hopefully theyre good people and will handle the situation with me and everyone else in a honest manner.

No, what I am saying is that all Hoe's with the rear DVD system will not come on unless you put a DVD in or if there is already a DVD playing, push the power button on the remote. This has nothing to do with the lockpick. I do believe if you go back and search on Rear DVD you will find a post about someone complaining about having to use the remote all the time to turn the unit on.

It is a design problem everyone has with the rear dvd units. The rear dvd screen doesnt simply come on if the ignition was shut off and the dvd wasnt removed or replaced! There is nothing wrong with yours! Take your remote and push play, make sure you are pointing the remote at the actual rear dvd unit not the headunit! That is the fix for the problem. Unless you are inserting a new dvd you have to push PLAY on the remote!

To get my rear DVD to come on I reach to the back of the center console and hit the power button on the rear entertainment control where the rear audio control and climate controls are located.
