Water Pump on 2004 Z71 Tahoe
I recently experienced a coolant leak in my 2004 Tahoe. It had 40k miles. I initially took it to a Gemini / Goodyear Service Center and they told me the problem was a leak in the hose between resevoir and radiator. After a $200 repair it still leaked. They then told me I also needed a new water pump. (Which I had another mechanic replace and the leak stopped) Is the hose between the radiator and resevoir something that typically goes out or was it my water pump all Long. They said they did a total of 3 pressure test. The 1st supposingly said it was that hose. The 2nd pressure test I was told showed I had no leak, even though I had coolant on my garage floor. The 3rd said it was the water pump. Any help would be appreciated, I am going to dispute the initial diagnosis if possible. Thanks
Find another shop quickly, do not look back. If it was the hose (which I doubt), it shouldn't cost $200 to replace. I suspect it was the water pump all along. A pressure test won't always find a bad pump, especially if it has just started to leak.
