Default Window tint and GPS

One of the first things I planned on doing to my new 07 LTZ was to get the front side glass tinted. In reading the owner's manual, I was disappointed to see a warning that tinting the windows would inhibit the GPS (and the satellite radio?). I talked to some window tinters and found that only the tint with metallic content would affect the satellite signals adversely. I had 3M 20% put on (which matches the rear windows), figuring that It would be worth the possible hassle of having it removed if it screwed up the GPS. I have had no GPS issues since having the tint applied. I guess the trick is to make sure that the tint you choose doesn't have the metal in it.

That warning is referencing tinting the "front windshield" and not the driver or passenger doors. I'm sure you're asking "WHO" would tint their front windshield and "WHY"?? I asked the same questions and found out that there were a lot of people who for certain medical reasons was having some special tint placed on the front windsheild!!! I had never heard of such...But I think one person said they had lupas (sp?) or something.....

So bottom line...You shouldn't have any problems regardless of the tint used on the passenger and driver doors.

Thanks, Rock!

I guess either the manual wasn't specific enough, or I'm just slow, but what you say makes sense. I couldn't live with the windshield tinted very dark myself. It is sometimes pretty dark with the front sides at 20%.

Thanks for clearing this up for me and other members.
