curious what kind of fuel milage others are getting from similar trucks. mine is the 5.3 with 4x4 automatic. my average fuel milage has been 11mpg since i bought it in dec.. the truck was lifted with 35 in tires on it when i bought it not sure if it is re geared or not.no engine mods or anything other than the lift not sure if this is normal. i know its a heavy truck with big tires and that means bad fuel milage but just want to make sure i dont have something else wrong.

 

My wife's 2004 stock Tahoe gets about 10 to 18 mpg.

ok thanks thats kinda what i thought. a couple of other people i know said that it sounded low but i thought it was probably right. i have also been wondering if doing some things like intake exhaust and a power programmer would really help that much with the fuel milage. i know they will with power and acceleration. you always see them advertised as being able to improve milage just not sure how true it is.

 

One thing to consider when you put oversize tires on any vehicle it has an effect on the calibration of the speed-odometer. You may be getting better mileage than you think. My 2002 suburban Z71 has 285 tires on it. I had to go into the computer an reprogram the tire size to make the odometer read correctly. With oversize tires you are actually going faster than the odometer says. Therefore you are covering more miles than you think. Check your mileage against the mile markers on the interstate. My p285 tires are 33.7 inches tall. You can find the exact height of your tires by calling a local tire dealer or go to the manufactures web site. My 2002 1500 averages about 14/15 mpg around town.

 

My 2004 Sub 1500 2WD with the 5.3 V8 and 3.73 gears gets between 14 and 15 mpg. But. . . Its has stock tires and isn't lifted.

 

05 z71 with 5.3 and 3.42 gears with 265/70/17 gets 13 around town and 18 on the hiway.
