Question 2005 Suburban 4wd actuator

I'm having issues with my 4wd. Getting the Service 4WD message. I have tested my switch and it is good. I can hear the encoder motor working. Took out the actuator and it was bad. Put in a new one and still getting the same message. I removed the actuator and bench tested it and it goes in and out as it should. When I took it out it was at least partially extended. As soon as I put the power and negative on the correct pins, it retracted. Putting negative on the trigger pin makes it extend, removing it and it retracts all like it should. I do have 12V on negative on the correct connecter pins.

I used a small dowel rod to push the piece inside that slides the fork but can I only push about 1/8 inch or so. How much pressure does it take?

I don't have a lift, so I could not rotate either front wheel, to see if it might be that the gear inside needs to be moved to line up.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Rory
