Question Rear Brakes Service ?

Yes, I tried the search and didn't find my answer ;

? Do I need to remove the rear drive axles to replace the shoes and wheel cylinders ? .

This drive flange is massive, I cannot see how to work around it .

Any reply will be appreciated, more so if it includes pictures or links .

TIA,

Thanx rednucleus ;

I thought that since I was in the 2nd generation forum I could skate but you're correct .

2000 model year Chevy Tracker base model 4X4 with J20 engine and slush box .

I don't see where the answer just above this covers my question .

Parts geek canceled my orders and didn't bother telling me, now I re ordered everything from Auto Zone (! MASSIVE increase in $ !), they say it'll all be here next Saturday 12/27 so I now have time to research this further and try to print out the helpful shop manual pages .

Rockauto can be a good parts source, though their shipping costs are not always the greatest

The answer was no you don't need to remove the rear drive axles.

>> Parts geek canceled my orders

That's because 2000 and early 2001 Trackers use the "old" style brake hardware which is not available anymore. AutoZone will not have it either.

UPDATE: Shoes and springs are available but the brake adjustment hardware is no longer available.

No ;

Parts Geek canceled my order because they claimed it couldn't be delivered .

This is the original brakes after a light cleaning, the leading shoe is paper thin, why I want to dip in and get them done BEFORE they go metal to metal and spoil my day .

This is how she looked when I 1st. removed the drum .

I have spare adjusters, the ones on the car now don't look bad, we'll see .

No doubt .

Looks like I have to wait at least a week, shipping is slow due to X-Mass .
