Default Service theft system light

My service theft light keeps coming on. It started when it started getting hot outside. It happens when I'm driving and sometimes I lose my gauges and the radio. Sometimes my car won't start but if I just pop the hood and close it, it starts right up and then I only have the service theft system light on. Any ideas as to what could be wrong? Its an 05 Uplander. Oh and the power doors won't work either when the theft light is on. Thanks for any info, I just can't get it in to a dealer for a week or so.

What is it? Probably a body control module getting hot.

Lisa Kirkhart Welcome to the forum...
I would have the battery cables checked as well as the ground cable for tightness and corrosion... You might also try disconnecting the battery for sveral minutes to reset everything...

hi,
i have a 06 uplander and mine just recently started doing the same thing. I have checked everything that I can think of; battery, I have put new terminals on my battery cables, I have had my fuses and relays checked, my alternator checked, etc. no one can seem to figure out what is causing it to do this. It doesn’t do it all the time but when my gages quit it won’t crank, if it is already running when they quit it will stay running and when it won’t crank I just have to wait for my gages to decide to come back on. Sometimes it only takes a minute sometimes much longer. I do know that when it happens my voltage to my battery and ignition are really low but I can’t find the cause of it. I can’t find any shorts and my battery and alternator are good. If anyone has any advice I would be happy to hear it.

I think the ignition is acting up. Its worn out on the inside where you put the key possibly

Default 07 service theft system

Ive recently traded for this 2007 Uplander and it says "service theft system" as well as some other service this or that system in the message area of the tachometer. I don't have a key fob nor does it seem to be affecting anything but I'm curious as to what to "service". Exactly. I know what to look for and do about the "service ABS system" message in the same area. It has "disabled starting" once since I got it, about 2 weeks ago and I disconnected the cables for awhile then touched them together before reconnecting them to the battery as suggested on here somewhere. It didn't work but, I reset it somehow with the dash info and reset buttons that I was pushing out of frustration. I'm just trying to learn something before I NEED to learn it on the side of the road. my more pressing issue is that if the engine is warm and I turn the car off, it's probably not going to start and run again until it cools back down considerably. I've run the DTC codes and nothing that seems related shows up. Any ideas on what, from what seems to be a long list of bugs, I need to try and address first? I'm currently living in this van and will begin driving it more soon whenever I get a job again. I don't know if I can be preventative here or not. There is a red car/padlock light on constantly to the left, in the speedometer portion of the gauge cluster. It's not a bad ol' van but I think it's been in some type of collision. It's not physically obvious but the "service airbag" message also flashes across too. I was working at a salvage yard, pulling parts for the past two years and don't see any damage anywhere that would have set an airbag off. If anything it's been ran up on a curb or something big enough to leave a small dent at the very bottom of the front passenger side wheel well. Just asking for any type of advice or similar experiences to maybe lead me down the right rabbit hole.

This message is triggered by the BCM it's self and from what you're describing you may have a short to the data lines. That being power or ground.
