Chevrolet Veraneio

In Brazil, Suburban is just another name for the Chevrolet Veraneio. But this classically styled ‘ute is truly one of a kind.

We’re all very much familiar with the trucks and SUVs Chevy has produced over the years. At least, the ones built for the domestic market. Few, however, are aware of the many variants sold in other parts of the world. But these interesting takes on what we’re used to are pretty darn cool in their own right, and awful fun to look at. Just take this Brazilian-built 1985 Chevrolet Veraneio, for example.

We spotted the Suburban-style ride over at The Collector Car Network, where it piqued our interest for very obvious reasons. There’s really no denying that this big SUV is in fact a Bowtie, but it still looks wholly unique from its Suburban brethren. Credit designer Luther Stier for that. Stier joined Chevy’s Brazilian division back in 1962. Shortly thereafter, he penned the design of the classic Chevrolet Veraneio, which wound up lasting from 1964 all the way until 1994.

For us Americans, the fact that a vehicle went 30 years without major styling updates might seem crazy. But it’s the norm in Brazil, as cars and trucks soldier on with, largely unchanged, for decades. And this particular Chevrolet Veraneio might be the nicest example you’ll ever lay eyes on. The bodywork and two-tone paint look flawless, as does the interior and engine bay. Which, interestingly enough, holds a straight-six powerplant.

Perhaps the best thing about this Brazilian ‘ute, however, is that the seller is willing to ship it to the U.S. And we’d say it’s a pretty safe bet that anyone choosing to do so would have the only Chevrolet Veraneio in the states. That alone is worth the price tag. After all, virtually everyone who lays eyes on it will have no idea what it is!
