Big Block Chevy Makes Us Blue with Envy

Custom paint, vintage looks, and massive pile of upgrades make this truck an Indigo dream.

If you really want an award-winning show truck, but really don’t want to spend the time building one, you should pay attention to this truck. We found it bouncing around at Carlisle Auctions, and it ticks all the right boxes on the wishlist. Starting with the accolades, this particular blue monster was featured in Classic Chevy World magazine. It was also part of the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour in 2011 and 2015.

Of course, once you see the build sheet, it makes sense those folks would be interested.

Under the hood you’ll find a fully-built 454 V8. It was bored 40 over, and fitted with a new cam, roller rockers, lifters and a Doug Herbert Racing valve train. Topping it all off is a Holley 750 carb and an Accel HEI ignition. Shift duties are handled by a Turbo 400 trans with a Lokar Shifter, and all the power gets tossed back to a Ford 9-inch rear. Reaching back into the Ford parts bin, you’ll also find the front end from a Mustang II tucked under the nose, complete with power steering.

Basically, there is no detail on this truck that was skipped or missed. It was a proper body-off build. They even made sure to fully box the frame rails.

But what really makes this truck worth your attention is the way it looks. That electric blue paint is as bright as the most beautiful summer sky, and it shines like a freshly polished gem. The Frenched headlights are a perfect complement to the slightly recessed taillights of the Corvette ZR1 roll pan in the back. Subtle pin striping on the doors, and a restrained use of chrome add just enough spice to keep your eyes drawn without overwhelming the truck.

This thing in painfully pretty.

As you might expect from the care paid to the rest of the truck, the interior is just as sorted as the rest of the truck. Extra heat shielding and sound dampening from Dynamat keep things comfortable on long highway cruises. Vintage AC ensures you stay cool, even on long drives down the desert sections of Route 66 remain. You don’t want to stain those bucket seats with sweat, after all. Finally, to keep folks entertained without marring that classic interior, a hidden sound system from Secret Audio is built in.
