Classic 1953 Chevy Pickup is Distilled Americana

Hearkening back to a simpler time, this pickup is a symbol of a bygone way of life.
Nothing says “Americana” quite like a pickup truck. The iconic image of the classic American pickup truck has been immortalized in everything from paintings to planters.
Why settle for something you can hang on your wall or put flowers in, though? Why not add a real classic pickup truck to your personal fleet?
After all, the market for these vehicles has been on the upswing for quite a while now. It seems that with each passing year, we see more and more restored pickup trucks heading to auction alongside classic muscle cars and exotic sports cars.
For your consideration, we’ve found this 1953 Chevrolet 3100 five-window pickup truck. This truck will be offered at the RM Sotheby’s Auburn Fall auction, which runs from August 29th to September 1st.
According to pre-auction estimates, this well-restored example should only set the buyer back between $25,000 and $30,000. While it’s entirely possible that two or more motivated buyers could easily push the price well into the stratosphere, it’s far more likely that someone will go home with this classic pickup for about the price of a well-equipped new Malibu.
While the bulky, utilitarian shapes of classic pickups like this Chevy 3100 may now evoke power, precision, or prowess the way that sports cars do, their forms are just as evocative to those that value aesthetics as well as historical significance.
After all, hard-working pickup trucks like this helped America to usher in a new era of prosperity after the end of the Second World War. Perhaps that’s why they’re so popular with everyone, even non-enthusiasts. Classic pickups like this transport us back to simpler times, whether we actually lived through them or not.
Much like its understated green exterior, this 1953 Chevrolet 3100 is similarly simple underneath. It’s powered by an inline six-cylinder engine, backed up by a three-speed manual transmission. Naturally, that transmission is shifted on the column, behind a wide, thin-spoke steering wheel.
The simplicity of this truck is a big part of its charm, and we can easily understand why its previous owner cherished it – and why its next owner will, too. Will that lucky next owner be you?
