Full Options, Low Miles: 1987 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer

It’s been so long since we’ve seen a nice compact Blazer that we almost forgot they existed.

The Chevrolet Blazer and GMC Jimmy get a lot of love from classic 4×4 enthusiasts. Usually, all of the accolades go to the square-bodied, full-sized K5 models. In our opinion, the smaller, S-10-based compact Blazer and Jimmy models don’t get nearly the respect they deserve.

We found this remarkably well-preserved 1987 S-10 Blazer for sale at a dealership in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The truck only has 64,000 miles on it, and it looks the part, too. We can’t remember the last time we saw one that looked this nice.

This S-10 Blazer is well-optioned, and it looks classy with its two-tone blue and beige paint and aluminum wheels. Inside, you’ll find plush tan upholstery, a Delco cassette stereo, and a digital dash. Every power option is here, as well as air conditioning and cruise control.

This pint-sized off-roader is loaded with nearly every option available. For a truck fan in 1987, this was probably about as close as they could get to a Corvette for the mud.

Under the Hood

Of course, the overall condition of the truck leads us to believe that this S-10 Blazer didn’t spend much, if any, time off-road. It is a 4×4, though, and instead of the base 2.0 liter four-banger, it’s packing the more powerful, if somewhat problematic 2.8 liter V6 under the hood. Performance and reliability is improved over earlier models by throttle body injection, which replaced the carbureted setup found in 1982-1985.

Incidentally, that same 2.8 liter V6 would power early models of the Jeep XJ Cherokee, one of the S-10 Blazer’s main competitors in the small sport utility market. This body style would last the Blazer (and its Jimmy counterpart) until a curvier redesign in 1995.

By 1987, four-door S-10 Blazers were available, but the two-door models like this are the ones we like best here at Chevrolet Forums. With all of the convenience options, we’d love to have something like this as a fair-weather daily driver. Just don’t make fun of us too much for not wanting to get it dirty!
