Exclamation stock fuel gauge VS aftermarket fuel gauge

Newbie here...I have a 1998 chevy cheyenne k3500 4x4 dually flatbed with the 7.4L. The fuel gauge in the stock cluster doesn't work so I put another used cluster in and still doesn't work. Before I changed clusters I installed a new fuel pump/sender in the fuel tank. Has anyone had this problem?
Also, I was thinking of getting an aftermarket fuel gauge and just install it in a pod somewhere but cannot find the correct Ohm rating for the stock fuel tank sender. I was told it's a 10-250 ohm but couldn't verify. Of course I'd rather find the problem and use the stock gauge/cluster. I don't want to spend $700 for a new cluster. any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

You can with an ohmeter check the sender moving the float from empty to full. That 10-250 sounds like the old style from the '70's, but may be the same for more modern vehicles. I'm going to assume you checked fuse, but I'd suggest check for power, and ground at the tank connection. What I am thinking is your are having a ground issue.

Thanks Kevin I'll try checking the wires for a ground issue. and will double check the fuses again. Do you know how I can verify the ohm ratings without pulling the sender? I guess I could go check a new one out of the box at the parts store lol. But somebody should be able to tell me what the Ohms are for those stock fuel senders right? I looked for the specs (Ohms) on the internet but couldn't find anything. I could try calling a few aftermarket fuel gauge makers or Summit etc.
Thanks again

No, you would have to move it physically. I was thinking you may still have the old pump. I am good with my parts store, not a bad idea to ask them. I would think you should find the reostat ohm information somewhere online.
