2004 Silverado instrument cluster
Last edited by Snytex1; May 24, 2023 at 2:08 PM.
I have a local shop here that I trust, been taking my vehicles there for years, in middle TN, that tested it, and determined that it needs rebuilding.
Quote is $200 to pull, rebuild, and reinstall. I think that's reasonable.
After the work is done I'll post what the cause and fix entailed, for other members to read.
I read up quite a bit on posts from people here about 2004 Silverado clusters, but being that I just had a shoulder replacement and can't really get down under the dash and do that kind of work, I decided to just let this shop do it.

My instrument cluster works sometimes and sometimes doesn't work and I'm wondering what could be the cause of this?

Can you please elaborate on "doesn't work". You mean the WHOLE thing goes dead? No lights, no gauges, no nothing?
Have you checked your fuses? Connectors and wires at the back of the cluster?

Instrument Cluster Frozen??

Hello all, my instrument cluster has stopped working. (Digital readout, lights, gauges, etc.) Only a strange panel of symbols. It has done this intermittently in the past when the temperature outside dips below freezing, but only for 1/2 hour or so, then everything comes back to normal.
This time, it's going on day 3, with no signs of recovering.
It's a 2004 Suburban, 4wd.
Any ideas as to the culprit?
Thanks, Luke.

it needs a cluster. they did have extended warranty but your probably past even that....think it was 10years coverage. there is a site sponsor here that rebuilds/replaces clusters. D & d instruments….usually in the right advertisement column

You don't need a cluster. There are many places that can fix yours. Cheaper than replacement and your don't loose mileage and VIN info. Check out the cluster repair threads. Dorman clusters are poorly made and I would fix mine vs buy one of those. BUT I guess by now you have already handled itBack to Subforum

In all kindness dear moderator, this site, for a beginner it seems, has no way to directly respond back to responders, might it be that until one has posted a certain number of times, that this is entirely unfeasible?
Hopefully my response, though late, at least, will reach you undisturbed, and less mumpish perhaps.
